SMF Notes Currency Commentary: EU Meeting Ends, Little Decided

The Dollar Index has rallied back above the 80 level. An announcement that the EU ministers had agreed upon a permanent support mechanism for the region caused some selling pressure on the dollar but a lack of details and a five notch downgrade of Ireland by Moody's helped reverse the early trading trend. SMF Notes Commodities Close: Crude Ends the Week Above $76

The CRB Commodity Index finished 0.7% higher with 11 of the 19 CRB components in negative territory. The top three performers were in the energy sector.



Dec corn futures gained 1.7% today, closing at $4.7875 following bullish data from the USDA this morning. Dec wheat closed 0.2% higher at $7.395, while Nov soybeans ended 1.3% lower at $10.3275.

SMF Notes OMDX Commodities Weekly Summary: Energy Ends the Week Strong, Metals Decline

The CRB Commodities Index rose a 0.9% for the week, outperforming the S&P 500 which rose 0.5%. Energy markets, excl. natural gas, were strong while metals declined.
