SMF Notes ECONX Motor Vehicle Sales Continue to Suffer Amid High Prices, Low Supply

High prices -- caused in part by supply problems following the Japanese earthquake and tsunami -- continued to put pressure on motor vehicle sales in June. Total domestic sales fell from 9.09 mln SAAR in May to 8.84 mln SAAR in June. That is the weakest sales performance since September 2010 (8.52 mln). SMF Notes Consumer Sentiment Tumbles on Higher Gasoline Prices

The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index fell from 72.0 in February to 63.4 in March. consensus expected the Consumer Confidence Index to decline to 65.0. The current conditions index improved, increasing from 33.8 in February to 36.9 in March. The expectations index weakened from 97.5 in February to 81.1 in March. SMF Notes Commodities Close: Energy Prices Rise, but Precious Metals Prices Slip

Higher energy prices helped the CRB Commodity Index advance 1.6% after it had suffered three straight losses. The CRB is still down more than 5% from the two-year high that it set earlier this month... Oil stood out among commodities this session.
