SMF Notes The initial claims level increased from 431,000 for the week ending April 23 to 474,000 for the week ending April 30.

This was the highest number of initial claims since August 2010. The Briefing.com consensus expects the initial claims level decreased to 423,000 for the week ending May 7. For the past four weeks, extraneous circumstances have caused the initial claims level to rise steadily from 385,000 during the week of April 2 to 474,000.
